Case Studies

Case Study 1: MIS to help achieve commercial excellence for a large multinational Pharma company.

Requirement To disseminate key information to over 1500 field employees every month –information that would help them achieve commercial excellence.

Challenge To consolidate all the information month after month and mail relevant files to each employee. This was the practice.

Previous practice Excel formats mailed to employees Sales force administrator was collecting all the required information from various sources, compiling them on XL and mailing relevant files to the field force.
We were approached by the client to design, develop and deploy a web based solution.

Key information being disseminated was on Sales, Non-Sales KPI s and market share data.

Our Solution The solution that we offered was based on creating a Field Information Aggregation Platform, and then rendering – based on Roles and Privileges the right information to the right level, using a web based application.

Main criteria in the design and development were:

  1. Ease of access to information
  2. Good application performance
  3. Validations of all the data
  4. Attractive and timely rendering
  5. Rendering to ALL LEVELS, thereby ensuring Information Access Equality across levels.
  6. Cost effective solution-not involving client licenses for a BI

We decided to use a 3-phase approach as follows:

Phase Time Frame Information source Tasks
Phase 1

Completed and deployed in Q 1 2012

XL files created by administrator

Aggregate, validate data and render

Phase 2

Under progress –planned for release in April 2012

Part XL and part native source

Extract, aggregate, validate and render b

Phase 3

Will be released in

Q 2 -2012

Only native sources –several applications

Extract, aggregate, validate, check for consistency, render bv

Benefits to client

  • Substantial time saving, which will become even more, once all phases are completed
  • Accurate data rendered in graphs and tables
  • Dash boards allow drill downs, and pivot table features

The project has already been a big success.

Case Study 2: A Data migration project with minimal impact to the client.

One of our customers from the Pharma industry made a strategic decision to move away from their existing software to SAP. The details that existed in their existing database was considered to be incomplete.

Additional data needed to be captured before putting it in SAP. Though there were many details to track to make a successful migration to SAP, the basic process was made simple. We followed a very systematic approach for porting the existing data from previous system to SAP. Steps followed were

• Export source data : Existing data was imported into a separate file
• Prepare Database and Import data to the created Database. For this step, we developed a tool which validates and updates the necessary fields in this table.
• Collect other missing Information and Create a trial test run.

The project was completed in 6 weeks and went very smoothly. The Client was delighted with our work.

Case Study 3: A complex Access Control project for a large international customer

VSM implemented a complex Integrated Access Control System (IACS) at a well-respected IT company.

The project had three major goals:

• Management of inventory of access cards
• Tighter Security management by controlling zonal level access
• Time and Attendance related reports out of card "flashes"

Generating useful information out of "flashes" involved exporting relevant data from access card readers and mapping them on data from other systems from within the organization, such as SAP and Peoplesoft. IACS has interfaces with many other solutions within the organization, and integrates well with them. The benefits to the organization are substantial, especially in areas relating to security.
Technology used was .Net with MS SQL Server as database.
